Alex Arrol
Hi im Alex. I'm 23 years old and in the start of December of 2007 i suffered my second stroken the first one i had when i was 18 which was minor compared to this one, which left me paralised down my right hand side at the time and pretty much bed bound and lost my speech. This was caused by anurisums which had leaked into my brain which caused me to have the stroke. At the time when it happend to me i was transfered to Glasgows Southern General Neurology, where i had a specialist surgeon who operated on me in the middle of December 2007 to glue and cut out the anurisums which had caused this stroke. Before the operation i was limited to what i could do couldnt get out of bed and struggled to speak and my girlfriend and family where told there could be complications if anything went wrong i could be left the way i was.
After my operation i was in High Dependency for a couple of days then was took back up to the ward and i was able to say a few words more than i was able to do before the operation. The surgeons where pleased with how it went. I was then transfered to a Physical disabled rehabilitation unit where i was given intense phyisotherapy to get me back up on my feet also speech thearpy to try get my speech back and occupational therapy to try get me to move my arm and try do things. I am still attending these now as just a day paitent when i need to.
But 6 months on i now can walk and move my hand and arm to a certain extent, my fingers are still a little tight but i can kind of open and close which i suppose is an improvent, its a slow process but things are alot better also i have my speech back, sometimes still have a stuggle if im put on the spot or if its someone i dont kno then sometimes it can be a struggle for a moment. I am still on the recovery process so hopefully in a few months more i will still see the improvements i am making.
The only trouble i seem to have since my stroke is even tho i can walk and move my arm they are still pretty numb. Ive purchased a circulation booster to try get the numbness from my feet/hand to come back.
I hope you enjoy my story of the experience ive went through at a young age with a stroke
