The NIHR Stroke Research Network covers the whole of England. The Thames Stroke Research Network currently covers North London, Essex, Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, Oxfordshire, Cambridgeshire (except Peterborough), Bedfordshire and West Suffolk. Our remit is to support high quality clinical stroke research studies, aimed at improving the treatment and care of stroke patients as well as finding ways to prevent recurrent strokes.
The research activities the Stroke Research Network help to promote, organise and develop fall under 5 different categories. Many studies are themed according to whether they aim to prevent new or recurrent strokes (1. Prevention), or are related to the timing of the treatment – in the acute setting shortly after a stroke (2. acute), or trying to improve longer term improvement following stroke (3. rehabilitation). Research themes can also span the clinical care pathway to include prevention, acute and rehabilitation themes and these often take place in a specific setting (4. primary care). Finally, some studies aim to understand the underlying causes of stroke and it’s pathology (5. translational).
We would be interested to hear from any members of the public, stroke survivors or their carers that would like to hear more about the work we do or become involved with some of our interest groups.
You can find out more about the Stroke Research Network, including research studies available at your local hospital via an interactive Google Map embedded in our web page.
