Different Strokes has over 100 volunteers and simply couldn't provide its services without them. Volunteers are reimbursed all reasonable expenses including travel, lunch, child care and accommodation for overnight stays.
Head Office, Milton Keynes
1. There are vacancies on the StrokeLine, and we are especially looking for people who can work on a Monday or Friday. The unique, and highly valued, aspect of The StrokeLine is it gives the caller the chance to talk to someone who has "been there" and so for this reason these vacancies are only open to stroke survivors. This is a very rewarding role for which full training is given. The minimum commitment is one half day a week.
Find out more from Eileen Gambrell, Services Manager by emailing Eileen@differentstrokes.co.uk or ringing 01908 317618 or 0845 130 7172.
2. Despatchers. These vacancies are for volunteer staff to give occasional help with the newsletter and other mailings.
Find out more from the Office Co-ordinator, Richard Parlor, by emailing richard@differentstrokes.co.uk or ringing 01908 317618 or 0845 130 7172.
Throughout the UK
1. Different Strokes exercise classes are organised by volunteers. Would you like to help organise an exercise class in your area? Ring 0845 130 7172 or 01908 317618 or email info@differentstrokes.co.uk and tell us where in the UK you could help. We can tell you exactly what's involved and how we will support you every step of the way.
2. Different Strokes belongs to a wide variety of bodies which have meetings, and regularly receives invitations to join other temporary and permanent groups and working parties too. We are recruiting stroke survivors and family members (the experts) to represent Different Strokes on these bodies. There are meetings all around the UK, although many are in London. You will be allocated an organisation in which you have a special interest or are a "good fit", for example someone whose stroke has caused aphasia represents Different Strokes on the Aphasia Alliance. The distance and ease of travel between where the meetings take place and where you live will also be taken into account. Training will be provided for these responsible positions, and you will be able to ensure that the voices of younger stroke survivors are heard. To find out more ring Debbie Wilson, Chief Executive, on 0845 130 7172 or 01908 317618 or email debbie@differentstrokes.co.uk
