Hi Paula,
Here is something I posted to the message board a couple of years ago
---------------
There are some 23 "locked in" stroke survivor stories at -
http://web.archive.org/web/20020108000804/www.buffnet.net/~billmcm/brainstem/surv-care.html
(or http://tinyurl.com/2gdro if that's too long).
And a lot of information about the condition at -
http://web.archive.org/web/20011226182051/www.buffnet.net/~billmcm/brainstem/Welcome.html
(or http://tinyurl.com/yu8vc if that's too long).
Both of these come from the website of a guy, Bill McMurray, who had a very severe brain stem stroke in 1990 at the age of 36 which resulted in a locked in syndrome. He fought back and slowly rebuilt his life in a new direction. His story can be found at the first of those URLs above.
Sorry the URL's are so long, but the original website is no longer being maintained, and is only available through the Web Archive site. Sadly Bill died on January 22, 2003 of a massive heart attack. His family had a celebration of life service in his memory on January 25, 2003 - he achieved so much, there was much to celebrate.
---------------
Please don't ever give up, and don't let Ian give up. Some others have achieved so much after their locked in syndrome strokes, so why not Ian?
Cheers, Peter
